Founded in 1972, TÉLUQ (or Télé-université), is the only francophone university in North America to offer all its courses at distance or online. Each year, nearly 20,000 students attend university, from cycle 1 to cycle 3. As a constituent of the Université du Québec network, it offers close to 100 programs. Its teaching and research activities affect most major areas of knowledge.

Programs

TELUQ offers close to 100 programs in all three cycles, including bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Admission is made at any time of the year. Diplomas are awarded by the Université du Québec.

The programs are offered by four departments:

The School of Administration Sciences,
The Education Department,
The Science and Technology Department,
The Department of Humanities, Letters and Communications.
Lessons

All the courses of the TÉLUQ, from the certificate to the doctorate, are taught by professors who are experts in their field. In general, under the authority of the professor in charge of the course, the tutors (at the cycle 1) or supervisors (at the graduate level) support the students in their apprenticeship and correct the work and examinations.

Course design is usually done in teams led by a professor and may include research assistants, associate designers, education science specialists, language reviewers, and computer or publishing professionals.

TELUQ, which used television as a medium for disseminating knowledge, now uses several media and media, including course websites (using Moodle, SPIP, MediaWiki, or other content management tools).

Open access courses

Since the fall of 2014, TÉLUQ offers, on its Ulibre platform, open and massive online courses (CLOM or MOOC in English). Also, several courses offer everyone access to all or a substantial part of their documentation. Some are licensed under Creative Commons (CC).

Research

The strategic research sectors of TÉLUQ are:

Distance Education, Educational Sciences
Cognitive Computing
Issues in the Knowledge Economy
Society, Culture and Communication
Health
Environment
A prerequisite for distance education in North America, TÉLUQ has developed a field of research skills in the fields of distance education, which relies on a critical mass of professors and researchers working in particular on:

Educational technologies
Learning Models
Recognition of prior learning
Student Success Factors
Open and massive online courses (CLOM, or MOOC)
TÉLUQ includes a research center in cognitive computing, the LICEF research center.

In February 2016, TÉLUQ obtained two Canada Research Chairs in Media Education and Human Rights, held by Professor Normand Landry, and on the ethical judgment held by Professor Lonzozou Kpanake.

Free access to research publications

In the fall of 2014, TELUQ launched R-free, its repertory of scientific publications in open access. Available free of charge on the Internet, R-free contains the final manuscripts of the research publications of the teachers of TÉLUQ. In constant evolution, the repertoire constantly receives texts resulting from recent research, especially those published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. In November of the same year, TELUQ signed the Berlin Declaration on the free access to knowledge in the exact sciences, life sciences, humanities and social sciences.
