The 100 best universities in the world in 2018 according to THE ranking

Britain and the United States at the top

According to the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking of 2018, Britain sits at the top of world education, with two of its universities ranked the best in the world, Oxford University and the University of Cambridge. These institutions are ahead of the prestigious American universities such as California Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Masachussetts Institute of Technology, Havard University and Princeton University.

What about other European countries?

Apart from Great Britain, only one Swiss university is also in the top 10 institutions in the world rankings. This is the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich), at the 10th position.

Other European countries are however on the list, such as Germany and Sweden, which have several institutions in the top 50, as well as Belgium, the Netherlands and Finland, which also feature in the ranking.

The rise of Asian countries

While the United States and Europe continue to dominate the ranking of the best universities in the world, there is growing evidence of a rise of Asian countries. At the top of this group are Singapore, with the National University of Singapore, and China, with Peking University and Tsinghua University, which are in the top 30. Countries like Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea are also welle represented.

No doubt we′ll see more Asian institutions in the list in the years to come.
